I've been in South Dakota for a little over a year and just recently worked up the courage to try the sushi or really any of the Asian options. Something about being landlocked... This was actually the third stop on my sushi tour of Rapid City, but easily the best. My friend and I split an eel, avocado, and cucumber roll which was excellent, I love eel and this was up there with some of the better eel rolls I've had. We also shared a crab rangoon appetizer which was really tasty, crab rangoon is one of my favorite things to order when I get Chinese food, which I've also had a hard time finding in Rapid. We ordered Chinese for entrees also and while I can't remember what I had (some sort of beef in brown sauce) my friend had sesame chicken which had a really nice spicy sauce on it and the chicken was cooked properly and had the right texture, which is sometimes hard to come by in Chinese food. Next time I'll probably order more sushi because I was really impressed with the quality. It's also a really beautiful restaurant it's a shame the crappy location makes it hard to see from the street.

I don't know what to say. I read the reviews expecting it be be pretty good. Too be honest, it wasn't that great at all. I had fried dumplings, California roll, and Pad Thai. Sushi kelp was very hard to chew. The dumplings did not look good or taste good at all if you can believe that. The Pad Thai was like no Pad Thai I have ever seen and not in a good way. I was very disappointed with this place and looking forward to some good food. I came here at 2:45 in the afternoon and was the only one here. It was very slow and maybe that's why it wasn't good, but wow was it bad. I eat out every week across the country and I don't think I've had food this bad at a place before.

Food is ok, mediocre at best. The restaurant could use some serious cleaning and updates. It's not the worst place I've ever been but not great.

I had panang from here today. I found a cockroach in it and am posting the picture. The SD Dept of Health needs to close this restaurant until they can serve quality and SAFE food.

Despite all the bad reviews, I've been craving good thai food. I knew not to touch the sushi, but thought, "Hey, maybe the cooked food will be good" I WAS WRONG!!! The wonton soup meat was cold with strange tasting mystery meatballs. My boyfriend got the General Tao chicken, it was just okay. It was the only edible thing we got. I got the Drunken Noodle. So gross! The noodles were still hard, the chicken was overcooked with NO flavor. There was ONE waitress doing everything. She was very flustered as it was lunch time and the owner was yelling at her and the sushi chef in the front by the hostess stand the whole entire time. I am NEVER going back here!

the sushi is good. the chinese and thai dishes are better than some places in town, but certainly not the best and probably should be viewed with suspicion. the last three times i've been there, the men's room didn't have soap. "so what?" you might say. well, consider that the employees also use this men's room and you can draw your own conclusions from there. at least with the sushi chef, he washes his hands right there in front of you at the sushi bar. amazingly, despite the concern about sanitary conditions, coco palace is not the worst asian restaurant in town.

Only been here once - came on the recommendation of an acquaintance, but was unimpressed. A fairly extensive menu, but our standard Chinese fare was mediocre at best. Probably won't go back, even though there are very few decent Chinese restaurants in the area.

Had food today from this restaurant. It contained a small cockroach. Health department needs to investigate this restaurant. This establishment does not deserve the 1 star given.

Good Thai. Good Chinese. Good sushi. But grossly understaffed, which drags the place down with respect to overall service.

Yes, there is Asian food in South Dakota and its actually good - hey I was surprised as well. Coco Palace serves up sushi, thai, and chinese food all under one roof. I was not about to order raw fish in SD but we did start with a veggie roll that was OK. For entrees we shared some curry and pad ped. Service was prompt and friendly and the food was tasty. South Dakota is not the most diverse state in the US to say the least and it was super awesome to enjoy some tasty Asian cuisine during my visit. Thanks Coco Palace! peace, love, and good booze ~ chase

Don't eat here. It is dirty outside, the service is very slow and the food is completely unimpressive. Bad food.

Growing up, everywhere we went, my dad would order a ham & cheese omelet for breakfast, and then proffer opinions about where and when he'd eaten superior or inferior versions of that dish. Pad Thai has become that go-to meal for me (though not for breakfast). I've had Pad Thai in Amsterdam and London, and all over the US. My top three so far are located in London, Chicago, and a suburb of Kansas City. My least favorite might be that at Coco Palace. While the service here was attentive, the food was meh. My husband's massaman curry was bland, but my Pad Thai was... well, it tasted like the rice noodles had been cooked in a vat of fruit punch. It was incredibly sweet, and the noodles were bright pink. I ended up mostly picking out the well-cooked tofu and vegetables but had to stop after a few bites of the wet, fruity noodles. We stopped at Coco Palace while on the road, and I doubt we'll be back in Rapid City for years to come. If we were locals, though, I don't know that we'd be back.

The food here is cheap, and the service is always nice, but nice or not, the food is cheap for a reason. Bland and poorly made, how important is cheap if it's not good?? Hana's has the best sushi in town. Fuji has an extensive sushi menu, so great for variety. Ichiban is...ok. For good authentic Asian, instead of Anglo-Asian, Hana's or Saigon are awesome. So go to these places and skip this dive!

If you want okay sushi in Rapid City this is the second of two places that I would recommend. Do not come here if you are in a big party more that 20 tables. I like to order by the phone and then pick it up. If you want a better place go to Ichiban's.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
